rub ALL the strangers

I'm officially enrolled in school. My first class starts April 30th. My tentative graduation date is August 2013, but hopefully when we move I can bump that up a bit. There's just so much coming up soon (life, school, work, internet and costuming wise) that right now it's all a bit overwhelming, but I'm excited, to be honest. The thought of having homework and papers and deadlines again is making me pretty happy. Hopeless nerd, yeah, I know. The only minor drawback is that their evening classes start at 5:30, and I usually don't leave work until 6pm. So now I have to leave early on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Which is just fine with me, waiting on everyone to show and closing up can be a pain.

And the best part? I get to wear scrubs. How classy is that?

what's a brother gotta do to get a blizzard around here?

I get irrationally angry at the weather. Weather in the south, specifically. And I know it's because I have such a fierce love for cold weather and snow. Having lived in North Carolina my entire life, one eventually grows tired of the 75 degree "winter" days. Once in a while we'll get a decent winter, maintaining temperatures in the 30's- lower 50's, and maybe even some snow if we're lucky. But it never sticks around for long. These seemingly endless hot, sticky summers and lackluster winters are beginning to drive me crazy.

That being said, I'm ready to move on. Literally. We've been looking at some places up north, specifically Massachusetts and Virginia, but nothing is for sure yet.  Somewhere. Anywhere with biting cold and where impromptu sledding is entirely possible. Where I can wear my bubble jacket everyday and not get funny looks because it's 80 degrees. Where it's not a guessing game of how to dress from day to day and where snow falls by the feet. Jaded southerner? Me? Nah.

But before all that moving business I'm looking to enroll in school. I actually found one near here that is specifically geared toward my field of interest, so if all goes accordingly, I will be fully certified six months from when I start. Open house is next month, so I'm crossing my fingers that it's everything I hope it will be.

Most importantly, Ember just found out that she and Way got their table for Artist Alley. She's going to be working on new pieces every week up until the con, so if you're going to be at AZ this year, do us a favour and BUY HER ARTS. You know you want to. I'll be helping to man the table most of the weekend, so do drop by and say 'hi' if you see us. We don't bite. Hard.

name day shenanigans

Ember's birthday fell on a Monday this year, and since it was a weekday, we decided to celebrate on Saturday. We invited a few friends over and went to the Grove Park Inn to see the gingerbread house exhibit, per her request. She really loves her some gingerbread houses.

So it's freezing in Asheville (which was wonderful, because I'm really getting tired of these 70 degree Winter days and 25 degree mornings. Seriously, snow or do not. There is no try). We all get in for free, somehow. I was fairly sure there was a fee to see them this year if you weren't a guest, and was fully prepared to begrudgingly pay the $12 or whatever to get in. But I find that if you look like you know what you're doing, people don't tend to ask questions. So we poke around the joint for a while, take a few pictures and check out some of the mind-blowing edible displays.

They were cute this year, especially the Alice in Wonderland one, but I'm pretty sure we missed a few of them or something because there didn't seem to be near as many as there were before. I was greatly disturbed and surprised at the fact that no one had constructed anything Tangled related. Not even in the children's division. With that grievous oversight in mind, I have decided that I am going to make one. From scratch. With fortified gingerbread tower walls, adorable candied window shrubbery and long, delicious taffy hair. IN YO FACE, 3rd graders.

After that we decided to see what was going on at the Asheville mall, which was a horrible decision, really. It was hot and crowded and the layout sucked. We couldn't even find most of the stores. After aimlessly wandering for a while and following people around to find this elusive other half of the mall, we got bored and left.

When it came time for food, and everyone is doing thier "I don't care, what do you want" spiels, I see my chance. I casually lean over and say, "It's your birthday, you get whatever you want. Sushi sounds fantastic. But you get what you want. No pressure, babe." And I'm looking at her like O,O. No one can resist the puppy dog eyes. Happy birthday to me.

Forgot who brought it up, but after that we made a Krispy Kreme run. Em got a red velvet cake, I got a hot-and-now. And I'm drooling on the keyboard as I type this because now I want another doughnut.

We all headed back to the house for a bit to feed the animals, and ended up staying for about two hours. I remember Dee and Em are trying to get me to dance, I'm all 'lol no,' Mari pulls me up and then the wrestling started. All I could hear playing in my head was 'In this corner, weighing in at one hundred and nineteen pounds, lightweight undefeated champion of the living room... ' Yeah, don't ask.

And today is the start of many days off work, and my plans are all set. Video games and sleep. And by that I mean cleaning the house and writing more fic.

oh, the irony

-on taking the What's Your True Zodiac Sign? quiz-

Em: "Okay, what do you think your worst trait is? Selfish, Aggressive, Controlling, Indecisive, Lazy or Stubborn?
Me: "Hmm... going to have to go with lazy and stubborn."
Em: "No, you can only pick one."
Me: "Well, I'm picking two: lazy and stubborn."
Em: "NO, it says you can only pick ONE!"
Me: "LAZY AND STUBBORN."
Em: *mouse-click* "... stubborn it is."

fic: "Why the Caged Bird Sings" [chapter two]

Title: Why the Caged Bird Sings
Author:  Hadrien
Fandom: Tangled
Rating:  T
Summary:  *Alternate Timeline* No longer bound by the walls of her tower, her only prison now is duty and obligation. Three months away from her wedding, she meets Corona’s most nefarious outlaw. “His ring is on your finger, but my heart is in your hands.”
Author's Notes: I just found the whole "what if he never found her?" premise very interesting and wanted to explore it. I've pretty much got the entire story mapped out, save for a few details that I may change or tweak along the way.

with great hair comes great responsibility

After delaying and stalling and general laziness, I went and got all my hair chopped off last night. It feels great having it this short again. Fits my casual messy demands perfectly. Personally think it's looking a little Gacktish. Think I earned the Ember seal of approval though, seeing as she couldn't keep her eyes or her hands off me all night. Shwiiingg.

We also went to Harper's for the first time, you know, that restaurant over by the mall that we always pass by but never go in. Very quaint little place, service was great, burger was sublime.

Top it all off with some much needed sexy times and you have the makings of a wonderful evening.

Now that the long weekend is almost over, I guess I have to stop pretending that I don't see that massive pile of overflowing laundry.
